Colchester TUC - Update - October 9th 2008 - Meeting

Thanks to all who came along to the meeting. I hope my talk on Friendly Societies was interesting for you.

Campaigning -
Public Services Not Private Profit. Agreed to hold the meeting on Tuesday 11th November
The Secretary had already provisionally booked the meeting room at the Greenstead Community Centre. Whilst it had bee hoped John McDonnell may have been able to attend, this was no longer the case. Efforts would be made to bring in speakers from the Public Sector Unions.It was understood that Rachel Heemskerk from PCS - DWP Essex would be speaking at the event.

Anti Fascist Anti Racist Action plan
This was being developed and copies of the Equality & Diversity Statement would be going to branches shortly.
Bob Lambert & Mike Fletcher has been collecting signatures for this on thursday lunchtimes in Colchester town centre. Contact Bob or Mike if you want to help.

Secretary's Report
The secretary went through the correspondence received and noted that he would be attending the SERTUC Trades Councils conference on Saturday. In addition he would be attending the Challenging Povertyism conference on 17.10.08 and he hoped to be attending the National Pensioners convention Rally on 22.10.08

Treasurer's Report.
Funds are holding up well in the main account and the Alternative Oyster Feast fund the Sub Committee Account is on target to meet costs of the event.
the following were agreed
£50 Sixth form College - Award for Special Endeavour
£30 Cuba Solidarity Campaign - re affiliation
£32.88 Website renewal fee.

Alternative Oyster Feast
Councillor Dave Harris spoke about the event and the arrangement are in hand. He would liaise with the secretary over the coming weeks in the run up to the event.
Discussion ensued over the request from Cllr Theresa Higgins ( Lib Dem) - Portfolio Holder for Diversity to attend the Alternative oyster feast as an observer.This was agreed to on the understanding that she was to be made well aware this was a Trades council/Labour event.

Essex County Association Of TUCs Next meeting 06.12.08

Delegates - updated the meeting on the situation in their branches/unions

Other urgent Business
Explo Nanni Kofi from Kilombo Organisation was invited as speaker for the November meeting.
