Colchester TUC - November Update



Campaigning


CWU dispute -
The local CWU branch has recommended that its members vote against the settlement with Royal Mail.

Alderman Blaxill & TLA - Academy School - NUT are holding a meeting on 27.11.07 and will be looking for support. Further details TBA.
Cllr Dave Harris gave a report on the 2 briefings he had attended as governor of TLA and as a councillor.

Alternative Oyster Feast

Secretary's Report
The secretary was concerned over the low level of attendance at Trades Council meetings.

He had attended the TUC Poverty Conference on 17.10.07 as he has an interest in associated topics. A report will go on the website in due course.

With regards to the website - Bob Lambert would welcome items for inclusion on the website.

Noted- letter from TUC re the TUC Womens Conference 12.03.08 - 14.03.08 in Eastbourne
Trades Councils are able to send an observer. Expenses would have to be met locally.

Agreed to continue sponsorship through "The Children of Swaziland"
Several other finance items were held over.

TUC Development Grant - Had been received.As previously agreed the £300 grant would be used to support the Fair Pensions for all Campaign/Alternative Oyster Feast by producing mugs with our logo and the legend "Fair Pensions For All" - Sufficient should be available to give to guests at next years Alternative Oyster Feast and surplus mugs would be used to raise funds for the event.

Delegates Reports


Chris Burrow- reporting on behalf of PCS in DWP spoke on a ballot over pay offer, the scourge of outsourcing and elimination of local switchboard in Jobcentres. It is expected the local switchboard operator will be given notice this week.

Bob Lambert - Unite/Amicus - Colchester Central - Spoke on the NEC elections for the union and efforts to nominate/elect a left wing candidate.

The next meeting will be Thursday December 13th 2007 at the ODD ONE OUT.
