COLCHESTER TUC - Meeting - October 8th 2009 - UPDATE


We welcomed Cllr Dave Harris to our October meeting.


Campaigning - The secretary distributed copies of the Trades Councils Programme of Work to delegates present and suggested this be discussed at a future meeting.
A number of issues were discussed under campaigning -
Royal Mail - the meeting noted the recent vote for strike action by CWU and would look to support CWU in their campaign
FBU - Bob Lambert - handed out the leaflet being used by Colchester Firefighters.
Anti - BNP - It was advised that a picket of Question Time programme would take place when BNP's Nick Griffin is due to appear on it.
First Bus dispute - Efforts had been made to get a representative from the Bus Drivers to the meeting, but witout success. Strike dates were 12.10.09 & 26.10.09 ......
Anti War Demo - 24.10.09 - Raph Pigott reported that an Anti War Demonstration was being held in London on 24.10.09.
Bob Lambert wanted delegates to know about a Socialist Campaign Day in Witham and Amnesty International Flag Day in Colchester both on 10.10.09.

Secretary's Report - Correspondence received was dealt with a number of requests for affiliation/reaffiliation would be dealt with in the Treasurer's report.
The SERTUC Trades Council Conference on 07.11.09 would be attended by Bob Lambert. Chris Burrow, Raph Pigott.
The Labour Representation Committee Conference on 14.11.09 would be attended by Mike Fletcher. A resolution for the conference on Troop Withdrawal from Afghanistan was agreed.

Treasurer's Report - Was received. The meeting agreed to -
- Re affiliate to the Anti Academies Alliance £40
- Sixth Form College - TUC Award for Special Achievement £50
- LRC - Conference - delegate fee £25
The meeting also agreed to support transport to Anti War demonstration - £25 and transport to the Anti BNP picket - £25.
Discussion took place on the level of the affiliation fee, which had remained at 7p per member for many years.

Bob Lambert spoke a a project he would like to undertake - to organise a trip to Tolpuddle for July 2010. He sought views from delegates. This he thought would be best carried out in conjunction with other Trades Councils and branches.

ALTERNATIVE OYSTER FEAST 2009 - Cllr Dave Harris reported on the arrangements for the event on 30.10.09. Invites had gone out this week. The catering had been arranged. It was hoped that as many delegates would be able to support on the day.
The Secretary noted funds were held to cover the anticipated costs.
Dave Harris was thanked for his work on the event.

Delegates gave reports from their unions and branches.

The meeting closed at 10.05pm

The Next Meeting will be on Thursday November 12th 2009 at 8pm at the Odd One Out, Mersea Road, Colchester.
