Campaigning

Workers Memorial Day
We plan to hold a commemoration at the memorial tree on Kings Meadow at 12.30 on Monday 28.04.08. More details will follow.

May Day Rally
- Thursday May 1st, lunchtime. Theme "Trade Unions and the political way forward", speakers being sought! More details to follow.

Confederation of Shipbuilding & Engineering Unions -35 hour week campaign
Bob Lambert spoke about this campaign, which was running, many years ago and was subscribed to by union members. It never achieved its target in the industries. However a campaign fund still exists and the unions concerned seem to be taking steps to access these funds, discussion on the issue followed. Bob would be taking this matter forward with the support of trade's council. (The funds balance sheet shows some £15m is held!!!!!)

Support for Karen Reismann.
This case of a Merseyside health worker sacked for campaigning about cuts to services is ongoing. Mike Fletcher is aiming to organise a petition signing in support of Karen.


Secretary's Report
The secretary went through the correspondence. He noted the recent meeting at Harwich towards setting up a Trades Council.
As in the past two years the secretary advised he intended to stand for election to the board of the East of England Co-op in the forthcoming director elections.

Essex County Association of TUCs

Pete Norfolk reported on the recent AGM and general meeting.


Finance
Thanks to the 10 branches that had re-affiliated so far this year.
The meeting agreed to send £20 to the Colchester Peace Campaign.

Alternative Oyster Feast
The secretary had examples of the mugs for the Alternative Oyster Feast. A surplus of 30 mugs would be available to sell to add funds to the sub committee A/c
