Colchester TUC - Update - June 9th 2008 - Meeting


Campaigning
The focus on the Anti Fascist & Anti Racist activity Branches would be asked to support Trades Council in this. Work would continue on this through the year. The development of an "Anti Fascist & Anti Racist Statement" as piloted by Chelmsford TUC.will be a feature of this.
An application for a TUC Development Grant would be made to support this work.

Secretary's Report
Advised he had attended the following
TUC Disability conference 21.05.08
LRC Economic Forum - 24.05.08
Essex County Association of TUCs 07.06.08
SERTUC - Public Services Committee 09.06.08

Correspondence
Received was reported on-
Steve Adshead had been in touch over the Resource Centre idea, but had not been able to find accommodation. He was looking at other ways to help vulnerable workers.

Concluding his report the secretary advised he would not be seeking re-election as secretary at the AGM in February

Essex Association of TUCs Meeting 07.06.08
The secretary briefly reported on this. Discussion on aspects of the Trades council conference. Delegates from Southend, Chelmsford and Colchester reported on activities of their Trades Councils.

Finance Report
This was received by the meeting.

Delegates Reports
Chris Burrow PCS DWP - reported on Pay in DWP and talks about talks and a recent Labour Research article on " Privatisation of Welfare Provision"

Mike Fletcher - UNISON - NEHMT
Would be attending UNISON conference. He had been a collection signature for the petition in support of Karen Reismann.

Bob Lambert - Unite Amicus - Colchester Central
Spoke on Jerry Hicks standing for election against Derek Simpson.

Raph Pogott - GMB
Advised he would be following up on affiliation for GMB.

Sarah Pigott - Unite T & G
Spoke on her experience working for a major charity.


There was no other urgent business - the meeting closed at 9.55pm

Many thanks to the delegates who attended our June meeting.
It would be helpful if I could receive a brief report (via e-mail) from delegates who are unable to attend a meeting so that other delegates are aware of issues affecting other unions.


The next meeting will be Thursday July 10th 2008 at 8pm.
