Proud Of Our Past & Fighting For A Better Future

Colchester Trades Union Council meeting on
July 8th 2010

Delegates attending the July meeting of the Council, discussed a broad range of topics. Foremost of the topics was the potential effects on jobs and services of impending cuts. A decision was made to affiliate to the Right to Work Campaign, and to build towards activity during the “Week of Action” prior to the Comprehensive Spending Review in October.
Peter Norfolk produced a publication from December 1979 entitled “ Cuts & You” which was of great interest to delegates and gave food for thought.

Other issues discussed included the Stop the War Campaign’s local activity. This included the Peace Walk and the release of Private Joe Glenton.
The 30th Anniversary of the “Alternative Oyster Feast” was in the planning process and support from unions and their members was being sought.

The next meeting will be on Thursday August 12th 2010 at 8pm at “The Odd One Out” Mersea Road, Colchester. All local Trade Unionists are welcome to attend.

In addition we are hoping to show a DVD about the 1972 general strike and the Shrewsbury 24 at a future meeting.
