Colchester TUC - Update - December 13th 2007 - Meeting


Campaigning

Alderman Blaxill School - Academy
Raph Pigott spoke on the meeting he recently attended on the proposal for an Academy in South Colchester. See the website below for information on the campaign and a copy of the consultation document

Defend Council Housing
Will be holding an event in London on 22.01.08 to secure changes to the Housing & Regeneration Bill . see their website for details

TU/Labour Resource Centre
No further update

Secretary's Report

Will be discussing further collaboration with the TU Studies dept at Colchester Institute, in the new year.

Would look to bring in speaker for meetings. Low level of attendance is an issue to overcome.

Local Issue for Brightlingsea.- Open Air Swimming Pool
The secretary follows local council issues and notes the potential for the open air pool in the town to be run by the Town Council as opposed to the District Council.

TUC Women's Conference 2008
An observer could attend from the TUC - interested Branches should contact the secretary for more information.

AGM - 2008
Arrangements will be put in hand for this in the early New Year.

Sixth Form College - Awards 18.12.07
The Secretary plans to attend this.

SERTUC -Trades Council Conference 05.04.08
It was hoped the Secretary & Chair would attend the event.

Essex County Association of TUCs

Pete Norfolk reported on the recent meeting. An idea coming from his report, was that we follow Chelmsford TUC and issue an Anti Racism Statement. This will be followed up shortly.

Finance

Agreed to the following payments
Secretary - honorarium £50
Hands Off Venezuela Affiliation £50
Solidarity Magazine - subscription £6
Hazards 2008 - donation £20

Alternative Oyster Feast
Discussion on 2007 event and ideas for 2008 event.

Delegates Reports


Chris Burrow- spoke on the recent PCS strike in DWP. Jobcentre management attack on flexitime. PCS rep in the Child Support Agency in Hasting sacked

Bob Lambert- reported on his branch's Social and the success of nominating Engineering Gazette candidates for the National Executive

Raph Pigott- advised there were plans to try & get a UCATT branch for the town.

Pete Norfolk - noted his branch was due to meet next week
