Central Hall, Westminster - home to early sessions
of the United Nations, was the venue for a major conference /rally
on the major international issues surrounding the war in Iraq.
Tony Benn, chaired the first session on " Iraq - the debate Parliament
won't have" A range of speakers gave their views
First speaker was a surprise - Dennis
Kucinich - US Congressman, presidential candidate and longstanding
opponent of the war in Iraq!
He spoke on the attitude to the war in Iraq in the USA.
Other speakers included -
David Edgar - playwright,
Lyn Featherstone
- liberal democrat MP.
Sami Radamani spoke about the corporate occupation
of Iraq.
Rose
Gentle - from
Military families Against the War spoke passionately About Blair's
lies and his unwillingness to meet with families of soldiers killed
in Iraq.
Bob
Wareing MP - talked of the privatisation of Iraq's Oil industry.
John McDonnell MP (john4leader)
gave his support for the Stop the War Campaign.
Speakers from the floor included Helen Salmon from Birmingham Stop
the War campaign - who expressed concerns over Iran situation and
was looking to ensure that Stop the War supporters be ready to protest
on the day should Iran be attacked.
Debates continued on Iraq and Britain's Foreign Policy
after Blair.
An interesting event, which I was pleased to attend.
