Brightlingsea Free Music Festival saw for the first time members of Colchester and District Trade Union Council spreading the word of union solidarity, our stall was highly successful with material to raise the profile of the trade union movment with members of trade council available to answer union -related questions.

Gwen Kirb -Dent and Samantha Vallis from Thompsons Solicitors in Chelmsford. Gave us an insight into the work of Thompsons and the work they carry out for Trades Unions. They also spoke of the aspects of the international work and the campaigning they do on a range of topics.


 

Sheila Cohen - Our Speaker - Thursday 10th May 2007

The author of "Ramparts Of Resistance" spoke at meeting Colchester & District Trade Union Council about her book, explaining why she belived workers had lost their power and how they might get it back. Sheila Cohen explores in her book issues of reformism, trade union democracy and the political meaning of ordinary workspace resistance after a battery of employer and state onslaughts, culminating in anti-union

John McDonnell MP - Public Meeting Monday 5th February 2007

At a meeting, organised by Colchester Trades Union Council.John McDonnell MP, who was standing as a candidate for the leadership of the Labour Party, spoke at a Public meeting at the RAD Hall, Colchester. the meeting was well attend with Trade Union members, Labour Party members, peace activists.

John McDonnell MP, LRC Chair, has written a manifesto for 21st century socialism - Another World is Possible. John said “This manifesto offers an analysis of New Labour's Britain in the context of globalisation and a shared narrative of the world we face. It sets out basic principles and policies upon which we can build a platform for socialism in the 21st century”
