Report From - JUNE 2007 - Meeting.


Speakers
We welcomed Gwen Kirby- Dent and Samantha Vallis from Thompsons Solicitors in Chelmsford. They gave us an insight into the work of Thompsons and the work they carry out for Trades Unions. They also spoke of the aspects of the international work and the campaigning they do on a range of topics.

Campaiging
-The University of Essex - Students Employment Rights & Unions. Simon Watson has a contact for this and the aim is to look at the issue in early autumn.
- Shop Stewards Network - Founding conference - 07.07.07 - Pete Norfolk has indicated he could attend this.
-Brightlingsea - Free Music Festival - 28.07.07 - stall - this wea to be followed up on.
-Stop the War Coaltion Demonstration 24.06.07- transport was being arranged by Richard Allday from Harwich,
- Hospitals- Both the situation as regards Mental Health Services & Foundation Hospital
Status for Essex Rivers was discussed.
-Remploy Factory Closures - secretary will follow up as appropriate.

Secretary's Report
As well as the correspondence the secretary spoke about the website which was updated regularly and expressed thanks to Bob Lambert for his work on the website
He advised that the Trades Council Award for Special Achievement for student at the TUC Studies Centre, would be awarded at their awards ceremony on 09.07.07 - The Secretary 7 Chair would be attending the event.

Alternative Oyster Feast
Dave Harris from the the local labour party was present at the meeting and plans for this years event were put in train.The question of a major speaker would be looked into.
Funding - Unions would be approached to assist with funding in early autumn.
The secretary will meet with Dave over the coming weeks to take matters forward.

Essex Association of Trades Union Councils - 02.06.07
The secretary reported on the event.
There were 12 delegates at the meeting and the work of the local TUCs was reviewed
Chelmsford TUC had held May Day & Workers Memorial Day Events, Harlow had been active on a range of campaigning issues.
Discussion on holding the Trades Union Council Conference in 2008 in Essex followed with the possible locations being Chelmsford or Harlow. More information was awaited from the TUC.

Finance
The treasurer presented the accounts for the month. Funding of trades union councils was discussed.
Delegates present gave a report from their own union branches.
