Report on Meeting - October 6th 2008

There were 12 delegates from a range of unions, along with John Ball
- SERTUC officer, Mike Walker - Unison ( Secretary).

Minutes - Of previous meeting were accepted.

Matters Arising - Report on the Academies Conference, which was deemed a successful event. Discussion on the bias of the press in London. And the need to ensure alternative views are heard.

Pay in Public Sector
Update on situation following local government strikes 16/17 July. Process of Binding Arbitration being entered into.
UCATT local government members accepted offer - but many members had different views
Education - NUT are balloting for industrial action on pay.
UCU - Pay ongoing issue. De-recognition of UCU being undertaken by some universities.
NHS - Gearing up for negotiations in 2009 when current deal expires.
Civil Service - PCS ballot under way over pay. Expect action before Christmas.

DWP - Office Services Review - Switchboard service effects of privatisation
Hammersmith Council - Privatisation of services - Call Centre in Rochdale.
NUT Pay Rally - Lewisham Town Hall, tonight.
Public Services not Private Profit -Meeting in Norwich. A good meeting but had an attendance of 20+
