How
Trades Union Councils Work
Trades Union Councils comprise of representatives of different unions,
elected by local branches, which meet within the locality covered by
that council.
A union branch is affiliate to the Trades Union
Council, in the locality in which it meets.
Each branch will then send delegates to the Trades
Union Council's meetings. These branches pay an affiliation fee. Their
delegates elect officers from amongst themselves to represent the views
and priorities of the constituent branches and to take responsibility
of working for, and supporting, the policy of Congress and the TUC General
Council. This is because Trades Union Councils are registered with the
TUC, rather than being entirely independent bodies.
The Annual Conference of Trades Union Councils
takes place annually on a May weekend.

Bro Roman Krzykawaski gave the above report.
( Amicus
Colchester Central Branch 1861 Delegate ) On the meeting held
on 9th March 2006 Colchester and District Trades Councils with guest
speaker Richard Bording.
"Richard Bording a director
of Colchester Credit Union spoke for about an hour on how Credit Unions
faction and their purpose. Whilst Britain is very slow to catch on
to the value of Credit Unions, there are many around the world. They
are very popular in the Irish Republic, and one serves the White House.
A Credit Union is a self-help group a true co-operative with all the
members having a common bond - i.e., working for the same company,
living or working in the same area. They operated by members saving
regular amounts and, after a qualifying period, a loan of double or
treble the account balance may be borrowed over agreed period - say
a year. The loan is paid back in addition to continuing to save and
interest is charged at 1% of the balance outstanding.
The benefits are obvious! It encourages thrift. It obviates the need
to user loan sharks and reduces debt burden to a minimum, A dividend
is paid on the amount saved annually and having money saved with a
Credit Union makes you a shareholder with voting right The Colchester
Credit Union has been running for four years and has some 280 adults
members and about 90 junior savers. Richard also said that volunteers
are sought to help run the Credit Union and that if our Branch has
some money spare then could we put it in the Colchester Credit Union."
